The data released by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Tuesday showed that it processed 12.54 million passengers at the domestic airports while a total of 4.33 million passengers processed flights through the international airports across Nigeria in 2024.
The figures indicated a 6.46 percent dip in domestic travels in 2024 compared to the previous year’s 13.5 million while the international figures showed a 6.4 percent increase over previous year”s 4 million passenger traffic.
A break down of the data reveals that FAAN processed 4, 134, 211 passengers at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed airport; 4, 372, 091 passengers at the domestic wing of Abuja airport; 1, 026, 060 passengers at Port Harcourt airport; 514, 460 passengers at Kano and 493, 510 passengers at Enugu airport.
Kaduna airport handled 57, 156 passengers while Calabar airport handled 130, 982. Sokoto airport handled 144; 047; Bénin airport handled 353, 350; Maiduguri handled 180, 149; Jos recorded 39, 496; Owerri airport handled 414, 290; Yola recorded 161, 847; Ilorin airport handled 143, 562 while 97,439 passenger traffic was recorded at Ibadan airport.
The Authority recorded 3,013 passenger traffic at Minna airport; 85, 017 was processed through Akure airport.
It processed 44, 830 through Katsina airport; Bauchi recorded 21, 897; Makurdi airport recorded 8,182 passengers while a total of 32, 778 passengers passed through Gombe airport.
On the international scene, Murtala Muhammed International airport recorded 3, 006, 102 passengers as against 2, 656, 109 in 2023; Nnamdi Azikiwe Internacional airport recorded 1, 070, 548 as against 1, 114, 230 in the previous year; Port Harcourt International airport recorded 10, 827 against 10, 902 in 2023; Kano airport 211, 671 in contrast to 251, 541 during the previous year while 33, 516 passengers passed through Enugu airport in the year under review as against 38, 051 in 2023.
