Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed stands for ovation from FAAN staff

The 26th day of September, 2025 would be a day to remember for life for Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed, former General Manager, Research and Development, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

It was not his birthday celebration neither was it his Wedding anniversary celebration but it was a day the teeming staff of FAAN organised a send-forth party for the amiable and hardworking director, who had retired from the Authority.

It was a joyous occasion as staff reflected on and honoured the achievements and impact of Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed, recognizing the time spent, the marks made and the good relationships built during his days in FAAN.

Beaming with smiles and Joy, family and friends joined Alhaji Kabiru’s colleagues at FAAN, in the boardroom of the Authority where the better part of  his journey of good legacies were spent, to celebrate his unforgettable but cherished contributions to the development of the Authority.

As encomiums splash from different corners, it was clear this was no ordinary retirement party; it was the crowning of a career built on hard work, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

Reading a citation for the man – of – the – moment,  Mrs. Ezinne Oguledo painted the picture of Mohammed’s life, his humble beginnings, academic pursuits, and professional affiliations.

It was a chronicle that reflected not just a career, but a story of persistence and excellence.

The tributes flowed effortlessly. FAAN’s Director of Corporate Services, Mr. Jensen Asaba through a speech delivered by Mr. Segun Peters, captured the bittersweet nature of the moment: the joy of celebrating Mohammed’s new phase, and the pain of watching a pillar of the Authority bow out.

His words echoed the sentiments of many in the room, gratitude for Mohammed’s years of service and sorrow at the vacuum his exit creates.

Others followed with glowing praise. From Mr. Hyacinth Ngwu, who marveled at Mohammed’s versatility across five different departments, to General Managers, Mrs. Asmau Nagenu and Mr. Oluwaseun Peter, who hailed his humility, teamwork spirit, and quiet strength.

To them, Mohammed was not only a colleague but a force of inspiration, a man who carried his duties with grace and purpose.

Then came perhaps the most personal tribute, from Alhaji Alhassan Gwarzo, his longtime friend and professional ally.

Recalling their days as classmates and fellow members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Gwarzo painted a portrait of Mohammed not only as an accomplished professional but as a man of boundless energy, deeply engaged in service beyond the corporate sphere.

With heartfelt warmth, he welcomed his friend “back to private life,” convinced that retirement would not dull the vibrancy of his spirit.

The family’s voice carried its own weight. Represented by his son, Kamal Mohammed, they expressed gratitude to FAAN for honoring their patriarch.

To them, retirement was not a matter of age, but a culmination of a distinguished journey filled with sacrifices, lessons, and triumphs.

They described him as strong, vibrant, and still brimming with energy, an example of integrity, humility, and quiet excellence.

When the man of the hour finally spoke, silence fell over the room. In his characteristic calmness, Alhaji Mohammed reflected on his years at FAAN, describing them as enriching and transformative.

He recalled joining the Authority without knowing most of his colleagues, yet leaving with friendships and relationships that became invaluable treasures.

Challenges had come, he admitted, but they were the natural bends in life’s path, and in overcoming them, he grew stronger.

Above all, he credited the Almighty for granting him life and strength, while paying tribute to his family for their sacrifices and his colleagues for their support.

“What stands out in FAAN,” he said with quiet pride, “is the culture of love and mutual support among staff. It is remarkable and worthy of commendation.”

With that, the moment gave way to celebration, the cutting of the cake, a toast, the presentation of gifts, and a cascade of photographs that captured the joy of colleagues bidding farewell to one of their own.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that this was not just a retirement ceremony.

It was the story of a life of service, a portrait of a man who walked through FAAN’s corridors not only as a manager, but as a mentor, a friend, and a symbol of integrity. And though he leaves the Authority, the echoes of his contributions will continue to ripple through its history for years to come.
