The imbroglio that had been generated between the staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and those of I-CUBE West Africa, the company handling the toll collection at the  Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access gate, may have come to an end as the Authority has with immediate effect, terminated the contract agreement.

In a memo titled: Re: Concession Agreement between FAAN and Messrs I-Cube West Africa Limited in respect of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Gate”,  dated February 4, 2020 and signed by the Managing Director of FAAN, Captain Rabiu Yadudu and addressed to the Managing Director of I-Cube, the Authority said it is ready to take over the place with a view to ascertaining the actual amount being generated from the place.

It asked the staff of the concessionaire to vacate the premises immediately.

“We refer to the above mentioned Agreement which commenced on the 10th day of February 2014 and expired on the 9th February, 2019.

“Kindly be informed that the Authority has resolved to temporarily take over the management of the said Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Gate with immediate effect to determine the actual revenue generated from the Access Gate. By this letter you are requested to vacate the premises immediately.

“This is to enable the Authority take appropriate decision on the management of the Access Gate”, the Memo reads.

Recall that on Monday, the three unions at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN), the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), on paralysed activities in that area and took over the toll gate, claiming that the contract had expired and that the company was not remitting appropriate proceeds to FAAN.
