As arrangements hit top gear for the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport (GWI), Iperu, Ogun State, for commercial flight operations, Nigeria’s fast-growing airline, ValueJet, will be operating from the airport on October 7.
The carrier will be operating two weekly flights to Abuja for now on Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30am to arrive Abuja at 9.45am and from Abuja to GWI at 16.00 and arriving GWI 17.15
The airline said tickets will be available as of September 25th online, through travel agents and at the airport.
The airline, as part of its expansion programme, will serve the growing demand in Ogun and offer an alternative to Lagos and Ibadan for those within the GWI, Iperu catchment area.
The GWI, Iperu’s strategic location is in Ilishan/Iperu, Ogun State, Nigeria, near the Sagamu Interchange and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
This prime position offers easy access from key economic centres, functions as an alternative to Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport, and places it adjacent to an agro-industrial processing zone and a free zone, positioning it as a major hub for both cargo exports and regional trade.
ValueJet promises to offer customary safe, reliable services at competitively priced rates with twice weekly flights from the aerodrome.
Its Accountable Manager/ Managing Director, Capt. Omololu Dapo Majekodunmi said the airline is excited to operate to the GWI Airport as soon as it is commissioned for take-off of flight operations.
He highlighted its growth trajectory in the past three years of its flight operations, affirming that it has leveraged passenger trust, partnerships and the hard work of its team to redefine the travel experience in the routes it connects across the country.
The GWI Airport, Iperu Illisan-Remo, Ogun State, was on August 15, 2025 granted Aerodrome Operational Permit granted it by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The approval allows the airport to operate scheduled commercial air transport flights.
A quick run of the features of the facilities at the airport shows a 4-kilometre (4,000-metre) long and 60-metre-wide runway, which is one of the longest and widest in the West African sub-region.
This design allows it to accommodate wide-body and ultra-long-haul aircraft, including a Boeing 777, A350 and other aircraft types.
