It was double honour for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) at the Air Transport Quarterly Magazine (ATQ) 2022 awards on Thursday as the director general of Nimet, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu bagged the CEO of the year award just as the Agency was recognised as the ‘most improved Aviation Agency’ of the year.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Matazu pledged his continuous support for the good of humanity, saying the recognition shows the commitment to service in the Agency, especially in the areas of manpower development and investment in infrastructure.

According to him, NiMet has maintained its Quality Management System ISO certification beginning from ISO 9001:2008 to the current ISO 9001:2015.

”In my career journey, up to the level of Professorship and the Chief Executive of NiMet, investing in the System under which I have had the privilege of working; and positively impacting on the lives of people I have been able to meet along the way have been part of my personal development. These I have also maintained since my assumption of office as the Director General/CEO of NiMet.

”I strongly believe that a good working environment (i.e., System) and a motivated workforce (i.e., Lives) will lead to Quality Service delivery that is not only Visible but Relevant and World Class. In Nigerian Meteorological Agency, we strongly believe in training and re-training of our personnel in order to ensure competent and highly skilled workforce. This is of course in addition to numerous investments in infrastructure development; not only in aviation, but also in other areas of meteorological application such as agriculture and marine among others. Since 2013, we have maintained Quality Management System ISO certification beginning from ISO 9001:2008 to the current ISO 9001:2015.

”Similarly in capacity building, we have maintained ISO 29990:2010. On this note, therefore, I wish to gladly accept this Award of the ATQ CEO of the Year 2022, and the Most Improved Aviation Agency of the Year 2022. I therefore pledge my continuous support, with the help of Almighty Allah, to the good of ALL humanity. My appreciation goes to the Editorial Board and Award Committee for the excellent work you are doing. To all industry experts and stakeholders, we crave your support in our quest to lift the nation higher through effective and sustainable service delivery”, he said.

While acknowledging the critical role of the media in strategic development, and the place of ATQ in aviation industry, Prof. Matazu noted that there can be no meaningful assessment of progress and evaluation of performance without accurate and timely reporting of activities both internally and externally.

”Quality reporting attracts investments that are critical to growth and development. In the Aviation Industry, good and quality reporting with patriotism is a catalyst for Industry Growth by attracting tourists and travelling public to our airports. Hence, the Special Place of Air Transport Quarterly Magazine.”, he added.
