The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Muhktar Usman, has praised the management of Aero contractors for maintaining a healthy financial status since the intervention by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
In the same vein, erstwhile director general of the NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren, showers praises on the airline for maintaining a zero accident status for 60 years, saying it is worthy of emulation by other airline companies.
Speaking at that ceremony to mark the 60years of existence of the airline on Tuesday, representative of Capt. Usman, Grp. Capt. Eyo Ita, said the report on Aero is a good one, saying the regulatory agency had monitored the prudent management of the airline in recent times, closely.
According to him, Aero does not hesitate in carrying out any regulatory advice, saying that for instance, it was one of the airlines to migrate to the automation policy when it was initiated.
“I don’t know why other airlines would not follow suit and the policy is to ensure financial propriety but Aero is one of the very first airlines to take the lead.
“The financial health of the airline is in the green, salaries are being paid on time, we have monitored the airline, Aero has greatly improved. However, there is lot to be done in the sector, Aero can be the leader”, Usman said.
Also speaking, former DG, NCAA, Harold Demuren said it was a great story that Aero survived through the years without a single accident or loss of life.
He said the future of the airline is bright with Capt. Ado Sanusi and AMCON, who he said are doing a great thing to turn the airline around.
“Today is a great day of joy, we are celebrating 60 years of carrying million of passengers without any loss of life. The airline made helicopter and charter operations popular in Nigeria. Today, we salute courage of AMCON and Capt. Sanusi, we are happy that Aero now has an in-house MRO and a great story that Aero is carrying out maintenance on B737 in Nigeria, we are very proud of this.
“For an airline business like this to survive, corporate governance is very important, there must be accountability and transparency, sometimes, the future may look rough but with hard work, integrity, loyalty and professionalism, you can survive”, he said.
Also speaking former managing directors of Aero, Capt. Dapo Olumide and Capt. Akin George, praised their colleague, Capt. Ado Snusi for displaying professionalism in turning around the company.
