Akwa Ibom State governor, Uno Udom Bassey Emmanuel on Friday, visited the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo in his office, in Abuja where  the governor presented plans for the concession of  the state-owned aircraft Repair, Maintenance and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

The governor’s visit is also not unconnected with one of the state’s capital investments, Ibom Air operated by the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP).

Tunde Moshood, Special adviser, Media and Communications to the minister, noted in a statement that during the visit, the Akwa Ibom governor briefed the Minister on the successes of one of the State’s investments, Ibom Air which is fast becoming the toast of the aviation industry.

The CEO of the State owned airline, Ibom Air-Mr. Mfon Udom also announced the delivery of ten brand new Airbus A220-300 ordered from the 2021 Dubai Airshow to further ease its airline operations.

“This visit is long overdue, there’s a need to brief you officially that we have just taken delivery of brand new aircraft, ten of them-Airbus A220-300 from the manufacturer, this will further ease airline operations and position Ibom Air for expansion across diverse African destinations”, the governor briefed.

“So, we’re looking at factoring out a symbiotic relationship between Akwa Ibom State and your office as the Aviation Minister, a situation where our aircraft overhaul facility, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul-MRO will officially be concessioned by the federal government”, the governor stated further.

As a follow up to his visit, the governor has invited the honourable Minister to Akwa Ibom for an inspection tour of the MRO facility at his convinient time.

In his response, Keyamo commended the efforts of the Akwa Ibom State government for its commitment and determination of providing world-class airline services to the nation.
