…as FG hires KPMG to audit airline

The Federal government said on Monday it has discovered a fresh $78 million debt by Arik Air to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Simon Tumba, who was speaking for the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) said at Lagos airport said that government has also hire the services of KPMG to audit the airline in a bid to ascertain its assets and liabilities.
“There is a fresh $78 million debt to IATA but above all, government has hired KPMG to carry out a forensic audit on the airline and there report may be ready in 11 weeks”, he said.
On the controversy over backlog of salaries, he said it is still being investigated, adding the claim also that there were about 500 ghost workers in the airline would also be investigated too.
According to him, government is planning to get back five aircraft to shore up the fleet in a bid to resume some of the routes that have been stopped.
“We believe strongly that Arik can turnaround because it has a young fleet, government is determined to ensure Arik turns around, the receivership is not for liquidation but for turn-around’, he added.
