The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has provided clarifications on the operations of Arik Air following the grounding of three of its aircraft after a court order on Tuesday, saying its overall flight operations was not affected by the pronouncement.

Spokesperson for the Authority, Michael Achimugu clarified in a statement that ‘the action does not include the suspension of Arik Air’s overall operations by either the NCAA or the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development as claimed in some quarters.’

He noted that the NCAA is duty-bound to comply with the court order attaching Arik Air’s aircraft (5NMJF; 5NMJQ; 5NBKX) following the determination of its case at the Supreme Court and to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

‘The NCAA reiterates that it has not suspended or halted Arik Air’s flight operations, which continue as scheduled and do not affect the airline’s ability to operate its remaining fleet.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience as Arik Air works through this situation with minimal disruption.”, he said.

The Authority had also assured affected passengers of protection of their rights as they have been asked to contact the Consumer Protection department or any of its officers across the nation’s airports for further clarifications.

Arik Air fleet was grounded by government on Tuesday over a debt of $2.5million owed Atlas Petroleum International Ltd.

The action according to government was in compliance with Supreme court order in which the airline’s aircraft was attached.

But Arik Air management kicked against the grounding saying it is in disobedience to court order.
