The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been conferred with the Fellow Award of the Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (FQIIN) in recognition of his leadership and the Agency’s sustained commitment to quality management and institutional excellence.

The award was presented to Professor Anosike on Friday, 6 November 2026, at the NiMet Headquarters in Abuja, by Dr. Stephen S. Hati, President/CEO of the Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (QIIN).

The recognition acknowledges NiMet’s more than a decade of commitment to quality management, demonstrated through continuous ISO certification and recertification, as well as the progressive expansion of its certified services. These achievements reflect the Agency’s commitment to international standards, institutional excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

During the visit, discussions also focused on strengthening institutional collaboration between NiMet and QIIN, particularly in quality management, capacity development, research, professional training, and organizational performance. Both organizations explored formalizing their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for sustained cooperation, communication, and knowledge exchange.

In his remarks, Professor Anosike expressed appreciation to QIIN for the recognition and reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to quality assurance, institutional innovation, and continuous improvement. He noted that adherence to internationally recognized standards remain essential to strengthening the Agency’s capacity to deliver reliable and effective weather, climate, and water-related services.

The proposed MoU is expected to give both institutions an opportunity to deepen collaboration and promote best practices in quality management, with a shared focus on institutional development and service excellence.

The recognition further reinforces NiMet’s commitment to maintaining international quality standards and delivering meteorological services that support operational excellence, national development, safety, and socio-economic growth.
