United Nigeria Airlines said it has suspended a staff who was alleged to have maltreated a passenger with reduced mobility at Abuja airport on Monday.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the airline, Chibuike Uloka , said investigation has been launched into the matter as it will appropriate action in line with its policies of zero tolerance to any form of misconduct, when facts are established.

“United Nigeria Airlines wishes to confirm receipt of an incident report involving a passenger with reduced mobility, Ms. Doris Akonanya, during the check-in process for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa on 30 March, 2026. This report includes allegations of unprofessional conduct by a particular staff regarding her condition.

“We take this matter very seriously. The safety, dignity, and well-being of all our passengers remain our highest priority. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct, discrimination, or abuse, and we are firmly committed to providing safe, respectful, and accessible travel for all, particularly passengers with reduced mobility who require additional care and support.

“While the staff member involved has been suspended and a full investigation commenced, we are engaging all relevant parties to establish the facts and will take appropriate action in line with our policies of zero tolerance to any form of misconduct. United Nigeria Airlines remain committed to fostering an inclusive travel environment where every passenger is treated with dignity and respect, and will continue to strengthen our training, processes, and oversight to prevent a recurrence.”. it said.

The airline apologize to  the passenger, Ms. Akonanya and her family for the distress the incident caused.

“This experience does not reflect our ethics, values, vision, or the standard of service we are committed to delivering to all travelers. Since the incident, our team has remained in direct contact with the passenger and her family, extended our apologies, and ensured that their concerns are addressed, support is provided, and they are kept fully informed of the steps we are taking.”, it added.
