Passengers expected to travel with Turkish airline are currently stranded in Nigeria as they are being turned back from entering the airport over an industrial action embarked upon by members of National Union of Air Transport Employees [NUATE] on Thursday.

In a notice letter to all aviation workers titled: Withdrawal of services from Turkish Airline, the union accused the airline of ‘refusal to reverse the victimization of the sacked Exco members of the airline despite the clear injunction from the Ministries of Labour and Aviation to that effect’.

The letter signed by Ocheme Aba, General Secretary, NUATE and copied: The Commissioner of Police, MMIA; the Director, State Security Service, MMIA; Ikeja Regional Manager, South West, MMIA and the Airport Chief of Security, MMIA, asked all aviation workers to withdraw their services from the airline until all sacked members are reinstated unconditionally.

“We are constrained to commence industrial action against the airline with effect from Thursday 29, October 2020, indefinitely and throughout Nigeria.

“Accordingly, all aviation workers including ground handling, traffic, AVSEC and logistics personnel are hereby directed to withdraw all services from the airline until all the sacked Exco members are reinstated unconditionally and without loss of pay or service”, it stated.
